WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Institute for Legislative Analysis Center for Healthcare Affordability has issued key vote alerts on the 15 bills following the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee markup on June 23.
CHA has recommended support for 6 bills, opposition to 5 bills, and taken neutral positions on 4 bills. Votes on these bills will be included in CHA’s Healthcare Affordability Index, the first ever tracker measuring where every member of Congress stands on policies that make health care more or less affordable.
“Congress should be judged on whether its health care votes lower costs, expand choice, and protect taxpayers, not whether a bill simply sounds well intentioned,” said Fred McGrath, Executive Director of the Center for Healthcare Affordability. “Several of these bills advance real transparency by helping patients see prices, exposing how premium dollars are spent, and giving taxpayers a clearer look at Medicare Advantage. Others would grow the size and scope of the federal government in areas better handled by states, communities, and the private sector.”

The Center for Healthcare Affordability evaluates legislation based on five major challenges: skyrocketing insurance premiums, rising medical treatment costs, shrinking competition and fewer quality options, higher provider costs and less transparency, and exploding government spending.
