The Institute for Legislative Analysis (ILA) supports the Permanent Trump Secure Border Act (H.R. 9773; Rep. Chip Roy, R-TX) because it enforces the nation’s borders and upholds rule of law by codifying many Trump administration border policies. As introduced, this legislation would comprehensively reform federal immigration law by expanding immigration enforcement, restricting humanitarian parole authority, and strengthening detention requirements. The legislation would also increase penalties for immigration violations, require most asylum seekers to present at designated ports of entry and seek protection in safe third countries when applicable, and further limit the release of migrants into the United States. ILA commends Congressman Chip Roy for introducing this important legislation and championing policies that help protect public safety and reduce the taxpayer burden created by unlawful immigration.
